Returning to routine after the Christmas holidays

At TutorASAP, we offer some tips to our students to regain their academic rhythm mid-school year

Christmas holidays provide a much-needed break, but getting back to academic routines after a couple of weeks of relative disconnection can be quite a challenge, especially for students in demanding programs like IB, IGCSE, and A-Levels. Unlike the start of the school year in September, this return involves resuming classes with pending assignments, upcoming exams, and a fully operational academic calendar. For this reason, at TutorASAP, we want to share some practical advice to make this return both productive and efficient.

1. Organize your priorities

The first step to regaining momentum is knowing what needs to be done and when. It’s essential to take some time to review your academic calendar, pending tasks, and exam dates. Making a priority list and setting daily or weekly goals can help you stay on track.

Tip: Use tools like Google Calendar or organizational apps like Notion to plan your activities.

2. Establish a gradual routine

Jumping back to 100% immediately can feel overwhelming. It’s better to ease into the schedule by gradually adjusting sleep, meal, and study times. Try to stick to consistent timings to avoid fatigue and maximize productivity.

3. Review previous material

Before diving into new topics, take some time to go over previous content. This helps reconnect with the study flow and ensures you have a strong foundation for upcoming
subjects.

Tip: Take a quick quiz on key concepts or review with study flashcards.

4. Divide and conquer

Facing a long list of tasks can be discouraging. Breaking down assignments and projects into manageable parts can make a significant difference. This not only shows consistent progress but also reduces stress. For example, IB students tackling their Internal Assessment can divide it into stages like research, outlining, or drafting.

5. Create a distraction-free study space

A conducive environment is essential for focus. Make sure your study space is clean, organized, and free from distractions.

Tip: Try the Pomodoro technique to stay focused during short intervals and take effective breaks.

6. Seek help if needed

If you’re finding it hard to regain your rhythm or understand certain topics, don’t hesitate to seek support. At TutorASAP, we offer personalized tutoring to help resolve specific doubts and boost academic confidence.

7. Take care of physical and mental well-being

Academic success also depends on good health. Maintain a balanced diet, exercise regularly, and get enough sleep. Managing stress is equally important; consider relaxing activities like meditating or pursuing a hobby you enjoy.

8. Maintain a positive attitude

Finally, remember that feeling some resistance to getting back into routine is normal. Stay positive and celebrate every small achievement. This will provide the motivation needed to keep moving forward.

With these tips, we believe the key to a successful return to routine after the Christmas holidays lies in organization, discipline, and proper support. At TutorASAP, we’re here to guide you on your academic journey. Together, we can turn this mid-year return to classes into an opportunity to achieve your academic and personal goals. And remember, every small effort you make today contributes to your future achievements. Take advantage of the start of the year to build solid habits, leverage available resources, and enjoy the learning process!
