British education system

The educational system varies greatly from one country to another. The British has nothing to do with Spanish. Even in Great Britain there are some differences between England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. The European Union has sought to unify criteria and certain guidelines are met in all countries. However, each educational system has its idiosyncrasy and characteristics.

Here we will detail some of the key factors of the British education system, which are probably very different from those of the Spanish educational system. However, they should be taken into account, since according to the OCDE (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development) report of 2013 they put the United Kingdom in one of the ten most educated countries in the world.

Key factors to the British education system

  • As mentioned above, each administrative division of the United Kingdom (Scotland, England, Northern Ireland, Wales) has its own curriculum. They have a common basis, but differ in some points.

  • Unlike Spain, in high school, British students only have three common subjects (mathematics, English and science). The rest are optional at the student’s choice. In fact, in the final examination of the high school, in the GCSE (General Certificate of high school), the students can be examined of 5 to 12 subjects.

  • Investment in education is well above the European average. According to Eurostat 2011, UK investment was 5.98% of GDP, while in Europe it was 5.25%.

  • According to several studies, the academic level of higher education in the UK is very good. There are many European students who want to study university in this country. But for this, the access tests are very demanding and hence many students choose to study the International Baccalaureate which allows, like the British, to acquire the same skills and competences.

If you also want to study in these universities, in TutorAsap we have the key to get it.

British and International Baccalaureate

After the final examination of high school, the students have the option to do Vocational qualifications or academic qualifications, what here is known as Baccalaureate and that is the one that you have to do if you want to enter the university.

In the second you have to perform two exams. After the first course you have to examine the Half AS-level and in the second course, Full A-levels. In the latter, the more score you get, the more likely you will have access to the best universities.

Not only do British students gain access to highly-rated universities, but also to competencies and skills acquired throughout high school and especially high school.

Benefits of completing the International Baccalaureate

  • It is committed to innovation, creativity and autonomy. In the international baccalaureate, the students’ critical spirit is encouraged. The student must reflect and draw conclusions from everything around him.

  • Empathy. It is a fundamental tool to study and work with other people and know how to put ourselves in the place of the other.

  • It favors the search of documentation and the urge of the investigation. These aspects are closely related to the above mentioned critical spirit.

All these competences are acquired by students who decide to take the International Baccalaureate. More and more young people are encouraged to take this model, since it is the best preparation for access to the best universities in the world, such as Harvard, Oxford or Cambridge.

If you are interested in accessing one of these faculties, from TutorAsap we recommend you to attend the International Baccalaureate. From our academy, we offer all the extra support so that you can fulfill the dream of studying in them, for which we have teachers whose preparation has been exclusively oriented towards the support of students who work by this model.
